Tanks Arts Centre

In the Cairns Botanic Gardens precinct, Tanks Arts Centre occupies three former Royal Australian Navy oil-storage tanks built in 1944 and later adapted for arts use. Tank 4 hosts visual-art exhibitions, while the wider site supports workshops, music, performance and community events. A digitised touchscreen history at the Botanic Gardens Visitor Centre draws on more than 300 images, videos and official documents about the wartime fuel facility and the people connected with it.

Cairns Museum

Operated by the Cairns Historical Society in the historic School of Arts building, Cairns Museum interprets the social history of Far North Queensland through photographs, objects and personal stories. Cairns Aquarium

Cairns Aquarium introduces the reef, river and rainforest ecosystems of Tropical North Queensland through living displays, educational signs, daily talks and guided afternoon and night tours. Australian Armour & Artillery Museum

At Smithfield, this privately owned specialist museum collects, restores and displays armoured vehicles and artillery from the 1800s to the present, with a particular focus on the Second World War.
